888 Poker Review

888 Poker is another member of the 888 Holdings group, the entity that controls the world’s best known and most respected online casino operation.

What does that mean player traffic-wise for 888 Poker? It means that there are plenty of casino gamblers hitting its poker tables, which should - in theory - provide some pretty loose and juicy action. Indeed, for a good poker player, 888 Poker offers some serious value.

Just to provide you with a measure of the looseness of 888 Poker’s NL and PL games: the flops viewed percentages are around 50-60%, sometimes even up to 70%, which is the surest sign of fishy play.

The game selection offered at 888 Poker is excellent: there’s Holdem, Omaha and 7-Card Stud. No exotic poker variants are currently available. 888 Poker’s software is available in two versions: the downloadable one (which is the best as far as game experience is concerned and a no-download one, which is meant to fulfill Linux and Mac users’ needs.

If you’re looking for unique things about 888 Poker, the fish factor has got to be the first one you stumble upon. I mean 60% flops seen is fishy enough, but 888 Poker will often feature tables with 70% flops seen. Now, that there is one serious fish-market if I ever saw one.

The software is something no other poker room outside the 888 network has. The live bonus meter which players can track above their tables is a very nice addition. It takes the guesswork out of bonus redemption. The sign-up bonus, though not quite unique, is pretty interesting too.

Players get a share of the bonus upfront, so they can take the money to the tables right away.

888 Software

888 Poker’s software is privately developed, which means the Poker Room has no “Big Brother” to answer to.

The network it runs on is its very own network and while player traffic-wise that gives the poker room no help, it has only advantages from just about any other angle.

On top of that, player traffic is not a problem for 888 Poker either: it has more players than some of the smaller poker networks put together.

The software that 888 Poker uses, has undergone a major overhaul in 2007, and several smaller updates since.

Nowadays, the 888poker software is one of the best in the business. It’s loaded with superb features and various perks some of which are/were indeed industry firsts.

Beginners have a separate lobby, created to accommodate them better and to appropriately guide their first baby-steps in the world of online poker. The graphics – quite the Achilles’ heel for a while – are also cutting-edge these days.

888poker is mostly a Europe-focused operation. The software is indeed available in a large number of regional languages.

888poker were among the few operators who were allowed back into the freshly legalized corner of the US poker market, and their software has done rather well in Nevada/New Jersey too.

888 Support

As far as support goes, 888 Poker features a comprehensive FAQ section, where players may find the solution to some of the more common problems. Email support takes care of the rest. No live support is currently available.

888 Promotions

888poker really know how to get their new players hooked for good! They feature a regular,100% match bonus on deposits, up to a maximum of $400+$10, but that is not all.

That is in fact dwarfed by a superb no-deposit bonus they currently offer to their new players. The free money deal is an $88 one, and all players have to do to take it down is to download the 888poker software and to create an account.

Once they do that, they get the bonus money as well as a ticket to the All-in Gift tournament. This event has to be entered manually, but players are guaranteed to win a prize, so it’s all more than worth the trouble.

The regular 100% match bonus is also valid of course, and that one’s a more “traditional” deal in the sense that players have to make a real money deposit to get it.

Once they grab the bonus money, they need to redeem it the “old-fashioned” way, by playing in real money cash games and tournaments. For every $10 bonus-batch, players need to generate 100 BP (bonus points) by paying rake and tournament fees.

There’s a handy bonus-meter above the table, which will allow players to track their bonus progress.

In addition to all the above, 888poker’s players will also gain entry to the $100k First Depositors’ Challenge, the $1k Depositors Freeroll and no fewer than 7 First Depositors’ Freerolls.

All this is part of the 888poker Welcome Package.

Obviously, there a bunch of other special and reoccurring promotions running at the site too.
